So much to celebrate!

Big Hill Books has now been open for six months. Six months already! So, can I just ask, “Where did the time go?” I know this expression is somewhat cliché. But seriously, what happened to the last six months?!

They disappeared in a blink, of course. Just yesterday, I was walking to work in a sun dress, cursing the heat and humidity. Today I’m wondering how I’ll ever keep my 150-foot driveway cleared of snow so my UPS guy can reach the back door with his daily deliveries.

During those whirlwind months, since opening our doors last July, Big Hill Books has already accomplished so much. Here’s an attempt to quantify and celebrate a few of them:

  • 1 National Romance Day celebration

  • 1 significant August hail storm, resulting in 1 new roof

  • 1 Banned Book Week celebration

  • 2 book clubs, Literature & Liberation and B*tches & Stiches, in residence in our “Ugly Church Basement”

  • 1 holiday season under our belts

  • 2 adopted, (almost) perfect bookstore cats, Goose and Adso

  • 2 Open Mic Night events

  • 3 Second Saturday Storytime events

  • 5 First Friday Date Night events

  • 10 author events, including J. Ryan Stradal and Kate DiCamillo

  • 14 Tiny Tots Storytime events

  • More than 1,500 Instagram followers (@bighillbooks)

  • More than 5,700 books delivered for our initial inventory

  • Countless restock orders, and an ever-increasing number of titles, thanks to the support and loyalty of wonderful customers who support Big Hill Books with their purchases

It’s a new year and the beginning of our next six months. I can’t wait to celebrate with you even more great things on our one-year anniversary!

~ Beth
